A Message from Leon Weaver, President, Board of Trustees
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I'd like to thank the parents of the Wooster School for their generous support of last year's Annual Appeal and Gala.
Our Annual Appeal is our most important fundraising effort of the year. This fund helps to finance our operating budget and sustain other programs. It is imperative that all members of the Wooster community participate in this endeavor as it demonstrates a tangible commitment to the school. I can report to you that the Annual Appeal campaign raised $481,440 and the Gala raised $175,252. In addition, other endowments and capital gifts totaled more than $277,694.
It has been said that, "Into each life some rain must fall." And fall it did. While planning to hold the Gala on the lawn of the school, rain did in fact intrude. It forced the Gala committee with very little time to scramble and move the entire tapas themed event to the new Reception Center (made possible by a generous gift from the Elfont family) and gym area. The quick turnaround required a tremendous amount of work for the nearly 40 committee volunteers led by the Parents' Association - Jodi Felton, Deb Ancona, Jessica Cunningham, La’Shone Fullerton, Didi Klepacz, and from Wooster – Avery Costigan, Lori Kriegel, and Anne Gilson to make the event happen.
The tapas theme is an appropriate metaphor for the Wooster School. As you know, tapas is a concept whereby patrons can order many different small plates and combine them to make a full meal. If you think about it that's really what the development team does here. Any contribution of value (time or treasure) in combination with other's giving creates the full banquet that is Wooster School.
Sometimes it's hard to see tangible results, of our giving, but if you've been on campus you have no doubt seen the fruition of a number of summer projects. I'd like to especially thank the following families for their generous contributions to the improvement to the physical plant:
- Tennis Courts: Felton Family, Edelman Family and McKinney Family Fund
- Biology Lab: Wang Family
It is tremendous work like this and with your continued help, we can create an extraordinary environment for your children. Thank you for your continued investment and commitment to the Wooster community.
