Boys Varsity Soccer Update

by: Teddy Porter & Brayan Tenesaca

On Saturday, Wooster Boys Soccer played in the HVAL final against The Harvey School. Last year we beat Harvey in the finals. We knew they would be wanting revenge, but we weren't going to let that stop us. When the game started we received a corner kick. Senior Max Rainville crossed it into the box while sophomore Jordan Seng was running into the box. Jordan headed the ball in the back of the net from the back post, putting us up 1-0. Shortly after, Max dribbled through two defenders before he passed the ball to sophomore Brayan Tenesaca. Max played a through ball to Brayan, who would then dribble the keeper to score putting us up 2-0. After this we had a nice build up play where most people touched the ball. The last two people to touch the ball were sophomore Jack Foster and sophomore Michael Guillcatanda. Jack passed the ball to Michael and he shot it to the top corner to make the score 3-0. We ended the first half satisfied with our performance.

As the second half started, there was barely any action until Max received a penalty after dribbling through many defenders. His composure was perfect while he lined up to take the penalty and he shot bottom right, scoring his first goal of the HVAL final. Towards the end of the game, sophomore Ryan Vincent saw Jack Foster wide open to take a shot. When Jack received the ball he shot it right over the goalie's head, where he would score and make the score 5-0. As time was ticking down, Wooster earned a throw in. Sophomore Teddy Porter took the throw in and passed it to Brayan. Brayan took a solo run where he dribbled through half of Harvey's team and finally scored a goal securing the win at 6-0. We were super proud to win back to back HVAL finals, but we knew we still had one more tournament in front of us, which is the NEPSAC tournament.

On Wednesday, we hosted Rocky Hill Country Day School for the NEPSAC quarterfinals. The first goal came from a header in the box by captain Jack Zhaner. In the 37th minute Wooster earned a corner kick. Max Rainville crossed the corner into the box and found Jack's head to put Wooster up. The second goal came from Brayan Tenesaca, who was found in the box by Max. After a series of passes in the midfield and the attacking third of the field, Max took on the left back with pace down to the goal line and delivered a well-driven ball to Brayan's feet, where he made no mistake and buried the ball in the back of the net. The next goal came from Brayan's shot outside of the 18-yard box. After a short buildup in the midfield sophomore Jeremy Ortega found Brayan at the edge of the 18-yard box where he quickly turned and shot the ball into the bottom left corner with his left foot where he found the back of the net. Captain Max found his goal late in the half. After a quick throw-in from Brayan, our captain took on a player and buried the ball into the top right corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance of saving it. The half ended with the 5th goal from Brayan to complete his hat trick. After a clearance in the back from captain Chris Lopes, the ball landed in front of two Rocky Hill defenders. With some quick thinking, Brayan caught them off guard and striped the ball from their feet. The sophomore lifted his head to see that the goalkeeper was off his line and chipped the keeper from outside of the 18 yard box.

The second half started off to a slow start. 10 minutes into the second half, Jack Z continued Wooster's momentum with another header into the back of the net from a cross by Michael. The 7th, and final goal, came from Brayan after great individual skill from Jack Foster. After an attack from Rocky Hill, the soccer team won the ball back and went on a counter attack led by senior Eian Cushnie and Jack Foster. Eian played Jack F into some space behind the defender. Jack dribbled past the keeper and with a tight angle Jack decided to pass the ball to Brayan to end the game 7-0.

Come support the Generals on Saturday at 1pm as we host MacDuffie School for the NEPSAC semi-finals.
